Mee Pok

Yesterday we cooked mee pok to satisfy our craving. Most Singapore food can be found: Ba Kut Teh, Chilli Crab, Chicken Rice and even Prawn Noodle. But Mee Pok has been super tough.

So we decided to cook ourselves. This will be the first of many! It was a bit too salty because we got the balachan wrong. We will want to perfect this dish.

Ingredient list

1. Liver
2. Marinated mince pork
3. Marinated mushroom
4. Satsumage
5. Dried small prawn
6. Small negi
7. Lettuce
8. Noodle
9. Wanton
10. Awabi

Sauces
1. Dark soy sauce
2. Goma oil
3. Ketchup
4. Fish oil
5. Balachan
6. Knorr cube - for soup

Mee pok base
1. 2 tsp dark soy sauce
2. 2 tsp fish oil
3. Ketchip
4. Balachan

Lessons learnt: need to buy new drainers. Marinated stuff for 12 hours. Create soup pot with satsumage (replacement for fishball). Till the next try!

Need to Break Out

To think carefully before talking, give the audience the key message and build gravitas. This could be the most impt skill to pick up in the next two years. Learn to be more perspectively honest.

Before the Flood and Bertrand Russell

Watched Before the Flood for the second time without realizing I have already watched the full movie once. But got a better understanding and resolved to eat less beef. Climate change could really be the biggest issue of our time.

Got to know about Bertrand Russell. GKS biography mentioned this British philosopher who is good at logic, math and arguments. Too difficult to understand for now.

Start of a good weekend

Managed a few accomplishment this weekend. Hope to continue this momentum and improve.

1. Did a zoom chat with classmates from Primary School. This was something that was not done before leaving Singapore. Finally managed to do it in a different form but satisfying form. 8 schoolmates joined for 1.5 hours. Had a good chat, picked up on everyone's lives. Good to have done it. A bit coming to full circle because I managed to do it for Primary School, Sec 1-2 and army. Needless to say, Sec 3-4 and JC (two most frequently met groups). Japan schoolmates have also met frequently. So this gathering with primary schoolmates really meant something.

2. We also celebrated a good birthday. 13 years on. It was good. Played more D&D (see map above) and exercised a bit more. Tomorrow we will be going to Costco again to stock up. This is a good chance to list the things to do:

i) study 1-2 stock names, this is impt.
ii) read the newspapers
iii) prepare for Monday

Bonus action will be to keep reading the Nausica series. Cheers!

Renewed notion to do four things everyday

1. Meditate
2. Exercise
3. Read 3 x News
4. Jot down diary, think of impt TODO things constantly

This should take 2 hours daily if done properly

Life is about discipline

From kid, we climbed a shrine up in the mountains, it was a big shrine, with very little people but many stairs.

Golf Partners: Chiba Short Course

We did Golf Partners Chiba short course! It was a very nice experience.

It takes 1 hour from Tokyo to this place, but it was worth it.  The toll cost about 1,000 yen and the roads were not congested (we started out at 7am). The golf course was also not too crowded (from 8am to 12 noon).

This was my first time seeing Japan's golf technology! The ball comes out automatically after hitting off. It was so awesome! Although it gets crazy sometimes and two to three balls come out at once!

This is Darth Vader hitting with a driver. They were both 70m shots. We spent on hour on practising and it cost is 900 yen for a kid's lane and 1400 yen for an adult lane. After that, we went on the 10 hole short course/ That cost 3000 yen for one adult and 1500 yen for one kid. We only had two balls and it was fun. They did not need four balls to play.

After we finished 2 hours of short course (our scores 62-64 with par at 31), we saw this ad! It was about a lessons at 10,000 yen with lunch! I thought it was worth considering. Maybe we can have lessons next time.

Then we went for lunch at Irori! It was a traditional Japanese restaurant 400m from the golf course. We had the 800 yen buta shoga yaki teishoku or pork and ginger set! What a way to spend the holiday!
